On January 9, 2025, the AFL-CIO added Virgin Hotels Las Vegas to its official boycott list at UNITE HERE’s request.
Some 700 members of Culinary Workers Union Local 226 — guest-room attendants, cocktail and food servers, porters, bellmen, cooks, bartenders, and laundry and kitchen workers — have been on strike since Nov. 15. The union requested Virgin Hotels be added to the AFL-CIO’s boycott list after Virgin Hotels offered workers insultingly low raises that ultimately lead to a strike. Since then, Virgin has brought in replacement workers and reportedly paid them generously compared to what they paid their workers before the strike.
